How did we get here?  It's the first of December 2020.  How in the heck did we get here?  Where has this year gone?
It started out okay, I think.  January 1, 2020 seems like a lifetime ago, doesn't it?
We had a death in our family in January so things focused on that the early part of the year for us.
Then, out of the blue, there was a global pandemic.  True, we'd heard bits about it going on in other countries, like it having started in China -- and there was a fuss when President Trump was closing borders from Asian countries during the impeachment, but the media didn't talk about that.  Next thing you know, the media was blaming Mr Trump!  Go figure.
Guess what, folks?  It's a virus that spreads rapidly, a new virus, in the same family as the common cold.  Go figure.  There is no 'cure.'  By the way, we STILL don't have a cure for the common cold, so get a grip.
To be sure, if you get a bad case of COVID-19, it can be life-threatening.  BUT, there are thousands more who don't suffer from a severe case of it and go on with their lives.
Have you checked the numbers of deaths from the flu/influenza every year, it can be pretty deadly too if you get complications.  Sure, they have a vaccine for the flu, but I've never taken the flu shot, and never will per the advice of a medical doctor regarding my many allergic reactions in the past.  In fact, I avoid vaccines like the plague, because in my case, the side effects could be deadly.  Better for me to risk battling the disease than risk death trying to prevent it.
But, I digress.
I live in a state, a commonwealth to be exact, that has a governor who's edicts regarding the pandemic vary day to day and week to week.  The edicts conflict with one another and the ability to keep our livelihoods in business and our families afloat.  We have a secretary of health whose degree is not in medicine and infectious diseases, but rather in mental health.  This secretary and governor seem to think their words are akin to those of God Himself.  (For the record, they aren't.)  I worry about my fellow residents in this beautiful state, but I am only one to try and change things.  I do my best to support our congressmen and women, our senators and let them know I support their efforts to keep our great state treading water.  Are you in touch with your representatives?  You should be!
I live in the greatest country on earth.  (It must be great or so many wouldn't still try to sneak into it illegally.)  And yet, there are those crowds who want to change our country to be something less than it is, to someplace wherein competition dies, the ability to dream and excel is stifled, the ability to protect one's home and family is denied.  I worry about my country and her citizens (the legal citizens, not the illegal squatters who sneak in).  Now before you say I'm heartless or not a Christian, let me assure you, I can love all of God's children.  I can donate to agencies to help the homeless.  I can care for those who've suffered from oppression and violence who seek a better way of life.  BUT, I will not support those who arrive here illegally looking for another handout from our government.
That's not the way this works, folks.  There are those who are even legal citizens who want the free handouts and look for every opportunity to suck them up.  Shucks, I've even been told by some that I should look into disability because of my Fibromyalgia diagnosis.  I will not do so until the time comes when I can no longer function.  Sure, sometimes I have a bad day or series of days, but I'll still get to work and get the job done at some point.  I like my job, my colleagues, and to be active.  I like knowing I was productive, that I have created something of value and earned an honest wage for it.  I am blessed with an employer who is a Christian and is extremely understanding of my health and my personal commitments to help others.  (I remain involved with area veterans, local agricultural organizations, and a few other things.)
I'll be darned if I'm going to contribute to the drain of the USA's bank account.  Not if I can help it!  Just because you may be entitled to something doesn't mean you need to take advantage of it.
I watched the most recent presidential election with interest.  I watched people bicker and call names.  I watched candidates in many political races berate their opponents, yet never providing their own concrete solutions.  Where's the resume of the candidates?  I don't need someone telling me what's wrong with someone else.  I can see those flaws on my own, thank you.  Tell me what you can do for my state, my country, my local government, my people!  Too many candidates fail on that score alone.
Our election system should function well, but truly, when you have more votes counted than registered voters, or votes by dead people, that should sound the alarm.  I am very concerned by whom the Associated Press has declared the president and vice-president elects.  The AP is not part of the electoral system; they really have no say whatsoever.  It comes down to the legitimate counting of legally cast ballots, certified, and the electoral college.  For four (4) years I've watch the Democratic Party berate and cry over the 2016 presidential results, looking for someone to 'blame.'  Now this year, I'm watching the Republican Party berate and cry over the supposed results announced by the press, not the electoral college.  Full circle.
I will continue to stay in touch with my representatives at federal, state, and local levels and discuss my concerns and ideas for our great land.  I'm not going to stop communicating because I do (or do not) like the outcome of any political races.  I am going to call for careful checks and balances when I believe there are flaws in the system.
In the 2020 races, I think it was a great folly to have mail-in ballots for just anyone.  In previous years, for the military and citizens abroad, for those who travel for a living, for those with medically incapacitating issues, I believe the absentee ballot was a great idea.  For the entire populous, I view it as a disaster, and I don't care who won.  The entire process was not well-thought out by whoever implemented it.  I, personally, know several people who received mail-in ballots when never requested, threw them out because it seemed bogus, then had to cast provisional ballots as a result.  I know some who received multiple ballots; How do you get more than one?  I even checked the online systems to make sure my dead family members weren't listed as having cast votes.  (Thankfully, none of my deceased relatives were listed!  Score one for that!)
I hear people wishing for 2021 because 'it has to be better than 2020.'  Don't hold your breath, folks.  I wished a year away once after watching several people I loved die.  The next year was worse!  Yes, worse.  Don't wish your life away.  Live today.  Let's march through this weird year together, supporting our weird neighbors, enlightening our adversaries to the best of our abilities, taking care of ourselves (why do we need to start washing our hands this year, who really wasn't doing that before the pandemic, seriously?), looking out for fellow humans, guiding people to do things legally with respect for our laws and constitution, giving of ourselves to charities that help homeless, veterans, disabled, and so many more groups.  That should be our job as individual humans, not the job of the government!  We should help our neighbors so that they never feel they have to ask the government for a single dime!  When did common kindness go out of style?
When did excelling in a job, a foot race, a spelling bee, a political debate (an actual debate, look up the definition), a volunteer organization go out of style?  If you excel, and are taught to strive for your individual fullest potential, then you are better equipped to help others.  When we are taught to be mediocre, then there is no incentive to help others because there is no point to helping.
Our great country needs friendly competition, healthy goals to achieve more than we did the day before, the spirit of doing good for ourselves and others in due course.  If we don't do well for ourselves, then how can we be expected to do anything for anyone else?
As I sit here on Eastern Standard Time looking out my window at pitch black at almost 5:30pm, I realize the utter beauty of the current winter storm is hated, ignored, and discounted by many.  The truth of it is though, it's been an absolutely gorgeous day, perfect for postcards and calendars.  Many complain about the treacherous roads and plows that don't arrive to suit our individual schedules.  Guess what, folks?  It's a climate that has snowstorms every winter!  We get snow.  The government agencies declare Daylight Savings and Daylight Standard Time.  The time change has served its time, but gosh, they can't mandate when it snows!  Indeed, I drove in today's weather, on some very bad roads, slid a little sideways once, but I know it's part of life if you live in this climate.  I could choose to move somewhere it doesn't snow, but that is my choice.  If I choose to live here, than I accept that snow comes with the territory.
So, too, does my choice to live in the USA.  I know we have a great tricameral form of government in our republic.  (We are a republic, not a democracy in case you slept through that in your history class.)  We have to option to move somewhere else.  Our executive branches must respect the laws made by the legislative branches and both must respect the governing of our laws by the judiciary branch, whether at the federal, state, or local levels.  More and more frequently, those in the judicial system seem to forget that they are not lawmakers and our legislators forget that they are not judges.  And, our executives also seem to miss the memo that they do not legislate, but are there to execute the laws of the land.  (I blame all political parties for this, not just the two largest parties.)
Our country has great potential:  to grow even greater or to create our own demise.  The choice is ours.
As 2020 winds down and many of us celebrate various religious holidays, let us not wish away this year, let us strive to be better humans, to pay attention to the details so that we can hold all branches of government accountable, to support our leaders, and even to pray for them.  Pray for our country, her citizens, the residents of planet earth, and our planet since it is, in the end, just a speck in the universe, a dot and a minuscule dot at that.  God knows every single one of us, but we don't and that's ok.  The choice is ours to be tenders of our government, tenders of our fellow humans and animals, tenders of our planet, tenders of ourselves.
The choice is ours.  Every.  Single.  Day.  Choose wisely.  2021 is on the horizon, don't rush it.  Get your act together, today, tomorrow, and every day to come.  Excel.  Do your best.  Be the best you can be, not the best your neighbor is, but the best you can be.  Then help your neighbor if you can.
The choice is yours.  The choice is ours.
Thirty (30) days left to make a change, make a difference, excel, set your goals, build up yourself, and build up your neighbor.  30 days.  A lot can happen in 30 days.  Someone may die.  It could be me.  It could be you.  If it is you, will someone say you lived to your potential?  If I die, will someone say I was too stubborn for my own good?  Will we swallow our pride and do better?  Are you with me?   Are you getting it?
We choose to live in this great country.  We can minister to the needs of our fractured government, support our leaders, and work our derrieres off to make our system good again, while making our own lives better in the process.  We choose to live here.  We choose every day not to leave.
Since we've made that choice already, let's do better.  The choice is ours.

Pandemic Personal Problems

7/20/2020

Just for the record, folks.  This isn't just a Pennsylvania problem.  It isn't even just a USA problem.  It's a planet Earth problem.  (based on the following article in a Pennsylvania newspaper: www.meadvilletribune.com/coronavirus/virus-rebounds-around-the-world-deaths-top-600-000/article_252b9aed-eab0-56f3-90d0-a995306b1725.html )
We can debate from now to eternity whose fault it is, how it's been handled, and how deadly it is, but the truth is:  it is here, labeled a pandemic due to the ease with which it spreads (not due to the number of deaths), and there's no turning back time.
Lifted directly from a Google search (clearly not my words):  "A pandemic is defined as “an epidemic occurring worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and usually affecting a large number of people”. The classical definition includes nothing about population immunity, virology or disease severity.
"By this definition, pandemics can be said to occur annually in each of the temperate southern and northern hemispheres, given that seasonal epidemics cross international boundaries and affect a large number of people. However, seasonal epidemics are not considered pandemics."

So for those who argue that this isn't as deadly as other ailments that float around, go for it.  That's a blessing.  Thank God it isn't as deadly!  BUT, know it is easily transmitted!!  It has also been labeled slippery (paraphrased from the following article https://warmheartworldwide.org/understanding-the-corona-virus-covid19/ ):  the virus has the ability to mutate quickly so that it can continue being transmitted and shared, thus making more strains of the same virus which multiplies the task of containing and stopping the transmission.
The quick and slippery transmission of the COVID-19/Wuhan novel coronavirus is what caused this to be labeled a true pandemic, not its death rate.
Please folks, understand what a pandemic actually means.
This is a global issue, not specific to any county, town, or state.  There are more people being affected by this virus and the various methods of trying to contain it than those in PA who believe their constitutional rights are at risk.
Do I think our governor of PA has overstepped his executive authority?  Yes.
Do I think our legislators are trying to respect our rights?  Yes.
Do I think COVID-19, the pandemic virus of 2020, is going away anytime soon?  Nope.
Do I know that other viruses, supposedly conquered with vaccines, still exist (e.g. polio, measles, etc)?  Yes.  (They may be controlled somewhat, but they still exist, they have not actually been eradicated.)
Do I believe that individuals are going to continue to fuss about any and all attempts to contain COVID-19?  Yep.
Do I know that Americans like to be in charge of their own lives?  Yep.
Do I know that sometimes we put our independence and personal freedom ahead of the well-being of others?  Yep.
Do I believe that, deep down, we all still care about our neighbors and would help any of them in an emergency?  I surely hope and pray so!
Do I believe that each individual human does the best he/she can with his own life experiences/education every single day to exist on a free plane while respecting the rights of others?  That one has been in a huge gray area for a few decades now...... Our society here in the USA has been coddling some instead of allowing them to excel or fail so that they learn from life experiences and become better individuals; we have allowed too many to become dependent on the laurels of those who still excel;  we have become an I/ME/MINE era rather than a solid working team.
Do I believe our US Constitution and PA Constitutions allow for life, liberty, and PURSUIT of happiness?  Sure!
Do I see that more and more people believe that they are ENTITLED to life, liberty, and happiness?  You bet.
Our constitutional documents provide for the pursuit of those things, but not the guarantee of them.  We must also respect that whilst we pursue those items, so too are other humans in our realm of existence.  We are to be respectful of the others' rights that are equal to our rights.  No one above the other, respecting each other, and encouraging each other.  In following a team method, we are ensured of food, water, clothing, shelter, and the ability to pursue those things which make us happy.
Without doubt, no one is going to be happy 100% of the time, for there are obstacles along the way.  It's absolutely 100% okay not to be happy 100% of the time.
By the same token, none of us will be healthy 100% of the time. Illnesses and diseases come and go; they are huge obstacles on our paths to happiness.  It is our goal, our mission, to survive illnesses, diseases, obstacles.  We don't have to conquer them (although that would be pretty cool), but we have to learn to adapt and overcome the obstacles in our paths without creating greater misery to those around us.  If we are causing misery, then we are infringing on everyone else's rights to their pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
Instead of using any media (social, print, television, and others) to berate others' choices and abilities, why not use those to respectfully work together to get through an ugly time period for all of us?  Why not use the media for good rather than gossip, fear-mongering, hate-speech, and passing judgement?
I encourage each of you to step away from media for 24 hours, a week, or whatever it takes to let you look at your neighbor as a fellow human doing his/her best in this situation, receiving a myriad of mixed signals (as we all are).  Assess what you can do to help your neighbors.  Assess how you can pursue your happiness without causing painful emotions and situations for those around you.  Work on your kind and sharing words.  Try to leave the 'meanies' at the door and don't pick them back up when you go out again; let them fly away into the stratosphere so that you become a kinder human being.
Abraham Lincoln (you know, the wise President during the Civil War) predicted America would not be destroyed by outside forces, but rather that we would tear ourselves apart.  He was right.
Before we tear ourselves apart, folks, let's work to build the free and equal America that good ol' Abe envisioned:  an America wherein all are created equal with the same rights to pursue happiness.  That vision allows for human failure, learning from mistakes, working well with others, sharing when needed.  That vision does not allow for tearing down your neighbor because he/she does/does not wear a mask.  IF we cannot handle simple things, we will never handle the big things and we will, indeed, tear our country apart, and no longer be a factor on the planet.  So be it.
Maybe as such a young country compared to others on the globe, the USA peaked too soon.  Where is there to go once you've reached to the top?  If we're going to stay on top as a major contributor to this planet and our own well-being, it is imperative that we conquer selfishness and put our health, well-being, and economy ahead of our egos.
We, as United States citizens, have no clue how good we've had it for decades and how good we have it now compared to many spots around the globe.  We talk of being oppressed and subjugated, but if we were to visit countries that do not have a constitution guaranteeing life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, we would soon realize just what we do have here.
Do I believe we could lose our rights?  Without a doubt.
Do I believe it will actually come from our executives in government? Nope.
Do I believe it will come from ourselves and the factions/cliques with which we align ourselves?  You bet.
Do I believe we need to stop bickering like hens over the last piece of corn in the feeder?  Beyond a shadow of a doubt!
If you want to follow guidelines and wear a mask that some deem ineffective, go ahead.
If you don't believe in the basic cloth mask, feel free to invest in the OSHA standards.
If you believe wearing a mask is an infringement on your rights, don't wear it.
If you berate a common employee for enforcing his boss's orders to require a mask in his/her establishment, shame on you!  (Haven't you ever needed a job so badly to pay your bills, that you don't dare refuse the boss's edicts?)
If you boycott a business for enforcing state 'mandated' guidelines, that is your choice.  The business has the choice to follow the government requirements or risk losing its license to even be open.
If you believe a business should ignore state mandates, possibly losing license to be open, then don't tell me you are for the local businesses and supporting the economy.  Those businesses are between a rock and a hard place and are jumping through hoops to hold on to their livelihoods!  PLEASE SUPPORT THEM IN ANY WAY YOU CAN.
If you disagree with recommendations, mandates, and requirements regarding the COVID-19 situation, CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS AND GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVES FROM THE LOCAL LEVEL TO THE STATE LEVEL AND TO THE FEDERAL LEVEL IF NEEDED.
Griping on social media isn't solving anything, nor is it reaching those who can change regulations.  All griping on social media does is maintain a level of misery for everyone else.
Do I gripe on occasion and use social media as a personal platform?  Yep, just like you.
Together, we can be the change.
Do I think foul language and name-calling is a mature manner in which to convey ideas?  Not in the least!  Do I believe there are better ways in which to get a point across?  Absolutely!
Try sharing actual information, actual research, and oh yeah, send it to the legislators, medical research facilities, government executives, and the people passing out new restrictions on a daily basis.  Sharing it on social media isn't going to gain the results we seek.
We must use our constitutional rights as they were designed:  to make America the pinnacle of governments, to show the world that lives and governments with a solid rule of law and order could exist.  Let's prove the writer's of the U.S. Constitution correct!

State of the Union, raw & uncut, personal observations on social media

12 hrs ago, from my personal Facebook observations during the State of the Union address by President Trump.  3 parts to this post today, as there were 3 posts last evening.  the digits below each section shows the likes, loves, etc of personal friends. these are My observations and mine alone, as they occurred during the President's speech.

State of the Union address Part 1:
Notice how Ms Pelosi and Mr Pence are leaning away from each other....lol
All those Democrat women wearing white..... are they trying to act virginal or something?
Always fascinated to see who applauds and who doesn't, who stands and who doesn't, who looks pleasant and professional or looks sour and disinterested.
Interested to see Mr Sanders actually taking notes as the President speaks.
Loved seeing WWII veterans introduced along with Buzz Aldren, awesome people to be thanked forever for their services!
Sad the white suits and Ms Pelosi can't stand up to applaud all the reforms and improvements for our veterans and the VA healthcare system.
Ms. Pelosi gives a hand of halt to the white suits when she wants them to quiet and a nod when she wants them to respond.....SIGH
Dear heavens, Ms Pelosi is going to chew her lipstick and lips off if she isn't careful.....wow. Wonder if that's her version of photo-bombing.

State of the Union Address Part 2:

Wow, the white suits quickly discussed whether they should stand up and applaud Mr Trump recognizing women in the work force etc.....ROFLMBO.....and more women in the congress than ever before. Go girls....high five....yee haw. Now they're chanting USA!! LOL
Get that, Mr Trump recognized the historic moments of women being elected. Wow. He hates women alright.....NOT.
Gotta love little Grace Eline, cancer survivor and fundraiser for St. Jude!!
School choice, let's go!
My Mr Schumer looks smug right now as Mr Trump asks congress to pass legislation to eliminate late-term abortion, just after Mr Trump said he's going to ask them to pass legislation to provide for Family Leave for both parents when a baby is born.
Mr Trump vows to have the USA treated fairly that NATO countries pay their fair share.
Mr Trump explaining why he announced that we are withdrawing from the decades old treaty with Russia regarding nuclear disarmament.
We stand with the Venezuelan people who are suffering under the Madero regime -- Glad to see Mr Pence and Ms Pelosi applaud that together.
Mr Trump receiving boos when he denounces socialism, but more applause when he announces we will never be a socialist country!!! Go America, land of the free!!
Cheers by about half the audience regarding recognizing Jerusalem as the true capitol of Israel and moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem!!

State of the Union Address Part 3:
The President lauds our military members/veterans for their service during the long bloody sieges in the Middle East. Good reminder to Welcome Home those returning from Syria. Excellent point that we must work to create peace in the Middle East.
Nice to see some applauding and standing for those sacrifices -- especially the father of one of the Navy Seals killed in the attack on the USS Cole by terrorists.
I couldn't agree more that the anti-semitism being expressed around must stop. Officer Matson who was shot multiple times at the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting and faces yet more surgeries from that shooting (many already).
Nothing Greater than seeing Judah Samet who survived the shooting in Pittsburgh serenaded with "Happy Birthday to You" by the entire room, THAT is American unity!!
Joshua and Herman, one liberated by Americans in WWII, the other one of the American soldiers who liberated Dachow wherein the other was held as a prisoner, seated side-by-side tonight, helping each others' aching bones to stand and sit as they are recognized......If you don't get wet eyes....you need to rethink your moral compass.
Earlier, seeing Matthew Charles recognized as the first prisoner released under the First Step Act. What a marvelous man!!
Alice Johnson, granted clemency by President Trump; extraordinary woman who took a bad situation and made a great life behind bars (as great as life can be when behind bars). Such an honor to be introduced to this woman, even if it's through my television.
As President Trump is saying right now, "One Nation, Under God....."
Wow, did you see a bunch of the white suits dash for the door while the applause for his closing was still ongoing? As a female myself, wonder how many were dashing for the ladies room?? LOL Wonder if Nancy gave them the wave or signal to dash.....
