Education is key in this world. Here is the current Bill in PA legislature, headed to the Senate: https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cf…/billInfo/bill_history.cfm…
I share the above based on a 'debate' on one social media app that 'discussed' the views of motorcyclists blocking roadways so that a large group could pass through an intersection together.  One side viewed the bikers as having 'blown through the stop sign' while others believed the motorcyclists were keeping an escorted charity ride together as a group.  I re-shared their discourse (after having been re-shared by others) with the following commentary:
Having ridden in motorcycle funeral escorts with the Patriot Guard Riders and others, I am praying this bill passes soon and is signed into law. There is no greater honor than to ride for the fallen, be asked to ride for the fallen, or ride in remembrance of the fallen. I've ridden in rides for charity causes and it's important to keep the group together for safety as well as the visual statement that we are out riding for a cause -- for example, raising money for a Relay for Life team. I've been blessed to ride with my hubby at all these things, from VVnW Post 52's Ride for Freedom on National POW/MIA weekend in September annually, keeping the memory of our Prisoners of War/Missing in Action alive to Rolling Thunder in Washington DC every Memorial Day (largest attendance of bikes was pushing 1million if memory serves correctly). Things like Rolling Thunder aren't joyrides - we ride to make a mighty thunder, to be the voices of those whose voices can no longer be heard on their own: our Prisoners of War, our Missing in Action. We must never forget them, nor dare we allow our government bodies to forget them. They fought for freedom, served when their country called, and now it is our duty to remember them. My hubby and I take our riding very seriously. Look at the backs of our vests and you will see this for yourselves -- His says, "Christ Died for Me -- I Ride for Them - POW/MIA" My vest has a patch with hands together, open, supporting the head of a bald eagle, with the words, "I Remember."
Even when we may take the bike for a quick grocery run, or an evening ice cream run, we remember those for whom we ride. Our fully dressed older Harley carries the POW/MIA logo on the batwing; we have a derby cover with the 3 crosses from Calvary; our license plate frame says, "POW/MIA Never Forgotten;" and an Armor of God emblem graces the points cover. We are usually flying a small American flag on the back; sometimes we add other flags: the POW/MIA flag, the USMC flag, or the flag of a specific event.
Never leave someone behind. That is the underlying theme in riding, even if it isn't said. If we spot a stranded biker along the roadway, we check to make sure they're okay and that help is on the way. How often do we see cages/4-wheelers (a.k.a. cars, trucks, and SUVs) do that in this day and age?
Bikers for Justice is another awesome group to which I belong and which I support, serving as a District Rep. Bikers really do care about mankind, children, the elderly, those who are bullied, those are dealt injustice. We may ride to show support to a grade-schooler who has been bullied so that she knows she's not alone in this world and that someone has her back. You may find us participating in political rallies, speaking up for the rights of motorcyclists or others.
We do not appreciate anyone profiling us as a bunch of bad biker gangs; nor do we appreciate disrespect of those we try to honor and for whom we strive to provide dignity.
Sure, there are some jerks out there, but every fragment of society has those -- from Harvard grads in fancy legal offices to the guys who pick up your trash every week. No sector of society is without its share of bozos and tis very wrong to stereotype an entire sector based on the observations of a few.
Educate yourself before passing judgement on any one person or group. Only God is omniscient; therefore, only He can judge without further research.
{stepping down off my soapbox} Thank you and good day.

Holidays - Equality - Children

Happy HalloThankHanuKwanChristmas!  Well, that's what commercialism has done to the 4th quarter holiday season.  Autumn arrives in late September and here come Christmas Carols, Halloween decorations on sale at 50% off as soon as they hit the store shelves and somewhere in the middle you find things like Halloween, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Veterans Day and others thrown in.
Thank you, thank you retail industry.  Is it the retail industry.....or is it more??
I shall spare each of you my definitions of the holidays, they are subject to interpretation anyway.  If you're Jewish, you'll prefer Hanukkah.  If you're Christian you may be pro-Christmas and anti-Halloween.  If you're a citizen of the USA, you'll relish over-eating, parades, and football games on Thanksgiving Day.  If you're of African-American descent, you will cherish your heritage at the celebration of Kwanzaa.  If you're a veteran in the USA, Veterans Day will be held near and dear to your heart.
Guess what?  I bet I just missed a bunch of other holidays and someone out there will call me on it.  We all do the best we can to celebrate our heritage, our religious faith, our communities, and having fun for the sake of having fun.
Sometimes we get very outspoken against something we do not understand.  Just because we don't understand someone other people's reason for joy is no reason to be mean and verbally or physically attack them.
That said; however, when people pervert their faith and use it for evil/generally bad purposes, then we have the right to call them out on it and put a stop to it.
I read an article recently in which reference was made to atheists and satanists promoting practices to children and asking a school board to approve of materials for distribution.  If you don't want religion in the schools, then you must not permit anti-religion either.  It has to be equal both ways.  If for example, you don't allow the Bible and Christianity in school materials, then Islam cannot be taught either.  If you won't allow religion, you can't have anti-religion (e.g. atheism) in the school
If you believe in good, you must believe in evil.
If you believe in God, you must believe in the devil.
If you believe in heaven, you must believe in hell.
Every action incurs and equal and opposite reaction.
Look at our schools today.  They are a jumbled mess.  Took Christianity out but put pure evolution in.  They do not permit the discussion of the beliefs of Christianity even though Christianity exists.  They do not permit prayer.  All of a sudden lately, though, there is a huge push to permit the teaching of Islamic beliefs, atheistic beliefs, and even satanic beliefs.  If you're going to teach one, you must teach them all, equally.
And we wonder why our youth are confused, depressed, angry, and getting into trouble.  WE are confusing them by our very lack to teach them with fare and true content.  WE are allowing our government-influenced educators and school boards to be bullied further and further into teaching our children a bunch of confused and partial belief systems.
(Don't even get me started on the Common Core system that is completely degrading mathematics among other courses.)
How have we gone from celebrating each holiday for its own worth and respecting others' celebrations to demoralizing our children with conflicting belief systems?  Do we blame the greed of the retail industry?  Do we blame teachers or school boards?  Do we blame various religious and anti-religious groups?  Do we blame ourselves?  Do we blame our own faith?  Do we blame each other?  Do we blame the leaders of our country?
Something to consider:  we elect our leaders (either by voting or failing to vote and allowing bad leaders into power), we elect our school boards who hire the teachers of our young people.  We choose where to attend church, if we attend church.  We allow bullying of our educational system and our young people on the largest scale possible and yet we do nothing about it.
We see parents run to the schools and complain if Suzi Q or John Doe get insulted and we complain bitterly because the school didn't protect our child.  BUT GUESS WHAT FOLKS??  Life is mean.  Life is not easy.  If it were pleasant and easy all the time, we'd most likely be in heaven (for those who believe it exists.
I'm not saying not to stand up for your children when there is a serious problem, which can include bullying.  We do need to teach our children to stand up for themselves too.
We are setting the poorest of examples in this country in the current era.  We allow small sub-groups to bully our educational system instead of standing up and saying this isn't good stuff/good curriculum.  Do not misunderstand me, I am all for adding new and good things.  I have no problem teaching all about all religions and anti-religions, let's be equal.  Equal is the component.  Give our children and grandchildren an equal balance of knowledge so they don't continue growing up confused, needing more and more chemical medications pumped into them to help them cope with the lack of mental tools we failed to provide them.
Back to the holidays......enjoy each one.  Play, celebrate, pray, and savor.  Enjoy each one in its own time, not in one jumbled mess.
From my faith to yours, may you be blessed.

Racism

Definition of RACISM  per Merriam-Webster Dictionary online
 1 : a belief that race
is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and
that racial differences produce an inherent  superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice
or discrimination
Racism.  Is it subjective or relative?  How do you define it?  What makes a definition correct and something that everyone can agree upon?  Do you agree with the above-cited definitions regarding racism?
I have been accused lately of being racist.  Am I?
I was told my recent posts on Facebook demonstrate my racism and show that it is coming out.
What do you think?  Please, visit my Facebook page, Kind Readers, and let me know if you think I am a racist?  Here is the link:

Rita Preston's Views
I'm wondering if the accuser meant that I was racially prejudiced instead of racist.  I do not believe one race is superior to another anymore than I believe that men are smarter than women, that blondes are dumber than folks with other hair colors, that brown-eyed folks are warmer than green-eyed folks, that college degrees make someone smarter than someone who has only a high school diploma, that little green men typify life on Mars, that if the sky is blue today it can never be grey with thunder clouds, that 2+2=5, or that the United States of America exists in the southern hemisphere on planet Earth.
I don't care what your eye color is;  I don't care what your skin color is;  I don't care what your education is.
I want a human being to act like a practical human being with common sense.  I want that same human being to be capable of doing the job for which he/she has been hired.  If that person is incapable and it was not discovered prior to hiring, then find a replacement and steer the unqualified person to the right position for him/her.
If preachers (here I refer to men and women of the cloth, those who preach a religion, etc.) want to preach the love of God and unity of mankind then they need to do that and live that.  Lately there are some prominent ministers spreading division in our country based on the color of the skin of someone who has committed acts such as manslaughter and murder.  It seems they make a gigantic public spectacle if a black person (for lack of a term which will suit every reader out there) has been harmed by someone of another ethnicity.  In the same venue, these preachers fall quiet when a black person (again, my apologies, I am not labeling; I am pointing out the pictures shown in the media) commits similar crimes against persons of non-black ethnic backgrounds.
I have been sharing this distinction and have been called to account for it as though I am being racist and promoting division.  I was further taken to account for having mentioned our illustrious POUSA as falling into the same category as a couple of those famous preachers.  True, he is not a minister of the Christian faith, to my knowledge (nor of any other religion of which I've been told); however, he is a leader of many people by having been elected POUSA.  By holding that rank, one must hold one's self up rather than further divide people -- was he not originally elected for hope and change........to bring unity?  I see more division in this country today than prior to his election.  Why is that?
I know, I (a small country community numbers person with a passion for God, Country, Family, and many other things, including writing) do not wish for division, nor do I wish for utopia.  I wish for common sense, equal rights, equal application of the laws, and equal representation in our media.  All of these items are lacking greatly these days.
Journalism and news reporting should follow their natural course.  If one wishes to editorialize, start your own editorial column or blog.   Editorializing, spouting one's own opinion, spewing forth drama from various political camps as diversions to actual news are bordering on fraudulent journalism.
My blog clearly states that these are my thoughts, my opinions, and my views.  I do my best to write on topics of current importance, based on news articles I have read, or little snippets of fodder I see along the internet.  Usually, not always.  Some of them make for great debate, some for serious argument, and some, I hope, for serious contemplation.
To be called racist when I describe someone based on his/her skin tone or any other physical feature and in the same conversation wherein I demand equal justice, equal representation, equal time or any other frame of equality is simply ironic.  If we are going to attempt to be that "politically correct" in this country, we have already lost our individuality along with our equality.   (I shall save the discussion of how inhumane and politically incorrect political correctness actually is for another day.)

If you want equality, it has to be equality across the board, you can't pick and choose when to be equal and when not to be equal.  When you dictate your equality, you border on some being more equal than others and that my friends rings reminiscent of communism and/or socialism.  Either we are equal or we are not.  Our Constitution says we are equal.  Don't call me names or label me when I am pointing out inequalities.
I am not racist because I do not like someone who plays at being in charge and can't see his ideas to fruition because he cannot 'work and play well with others.'  If he cannot fulfill the duties of the job, he shouldn't have the job.  If one cannot glean the cooperation of others, there is usually a reason.  Sadly, some may not like the color of his skin, some may not like the look in his eyes, or the way he wears his neckties, but for any POUSA, he needs to be able to work and play well with others if he wants his plans and dreams for his country to be put into a good course of action.

At the present time, I do not work in any job position or volunteer position which puts me into a work relationship with the POUSA so I am not affecting his ability to do his job in the slightest.  I have been labeled a racist because I don't care for him and the way he's been doing his job.  As I have stated previously, I don't care if he's purple as long as he can do the job.
Am I prejudiced?  Nope.  If you are straight up with me as a human being, I will be straight up with you.  If you are human and pretend to be a sheep, now we might have a problem.  If you are a sheep and pretend to be human, again, we might have a problem (most likely in communication).  Be who you are, give a damn about my country if you're going to lead it.  If you're going to lead my country, then lead, don't play back door games, stand up and be accountable when things go wrong below you.  A company is only as good as its leadership; same for the country.  If you cannot step up to the plate when it counts (e.g. an embassy under attack and Americans killed on your watch), then you should not have taken the job.
No one leaves the Oval Office a younger person; every single one of them has shown much aging by the time he has left office.  It is no easy job if given half the time it deserves and requires.
Am I prejudiced against our currently seated president?  In one way:  he is not doing well at the job; he is hindering and hurting our economy and morale in my opinion.  No, I'm not citing statistics here, I am basing this opinion on the everyday life I see in America:  families and individuals struggling to make ends meet, to hold on to their homes if they haven't lost them already, businesses cutting corners to stay afloat, automobile prices that equal the prices of small houses (auto manufacturers should be ashamed of their pricing; after all,  they got bailout money so they can stay afloat), rising costs of living that are climbing faster and faster while wages are stagnant, a sequester in place but lavish parties still thrown at the White House, a president who takes his vacations even though there is a sequester, a congress and senate that don't give up summer recess to set a good example and families who have not been able to afford vacations in many years, even a government shutdown because the powers-that-be don't work and play well together.
Am I prejudiced against our congressmen and senators?  In one way:  they aren't doing their jobs well either.  (See paragraph immediately prior to this one.)
Am I racist?  NO!!
Am I prejudiced?  Maybe.  What am I prejudiced against?  Leaders of government, pastors/ministers/religious leaders who fall far short of their calling and fail the people they've chosen to lead, some even acting racist against the people they were elected to lead.
Interesting article poking fun at liberals by conservatives:  http://youngcons.com/the-7-things-liberals-actually-mean-when-they-call-somebody-racist/  Is it poking fun or does it lend credibility to how many in our country are behaving?
Are YOU racist?  Are YOU prejudiced?  If so, in what way or ways?

Guns, Guts, Glory

6/10/2014

Current blazing headline today: "One student, shooter, dead in school shooting."

Pick the day of them week anymore.  Location?  Near or far from you.  This is becoming commonplace.

Hate to tell the gun control pushers that it has nothing to do with guns.  Nothing at all.  Guns just happen to be the weapon of choice for many of the current set of killers.

Drugs kill.  Making them illegal hasn't done away with them.  Maybe laws to make drugs illegal  make us feel good, as if we're doing something about the problem.  Truth is, those laws haven't helped.
Drugs are still out there, killing as many as before.

Truth is, if someone wants to kill, he or she will find a way.

Guts.  Do killers, murderers, druggies have guts?  Nope.  They surely get a few minutes of media glory though, don't they?

Maybe, just maybe, if we, the American people, would just teach our children right from wrong.  If we would give more disapproving looks when someone is making a buy, ask questions when someone is toting a gun in an unsafe manor, say NO when our kids want ultimate freedom to roam about the streets or internet.......IF WE would accept responsibility for what is happening rather than blaming the weapon.

Our media (movies, TV, etc) gives glory and fame to those who kill, who sell drugs, who maim.
Parents blame schools, schools blame parents, the media blames guns and we listen.

I was raised by parents who lived on a farm.  Guns existed for hunting.  Dad fought in WWII and was wounded.  I learned a healthy respect for guns and unless I wanted to learn to hunt, the gun was off-limits.  I had no need, no desire to question that or even begin to think I should swipe the gun and take it to school on a rampage that would surely end in my demise as well.  No desire whatsoever.  So, why are there so many young folk taking guns, acquiring guns today?

Explain then, if it is the fault of guns, why two young girls recently made media headlines for stabbing a friend of theirs.....in order to prove themselves worthy of a fictional character's attention?  KNIVES, Folks. These two used knives.  Another type of weapon.  Not a gun.  Imagine that.  Banning guns would not have stopped the actions of these two girls.  Guess what?  They wanted to impress a fictional character on the internet.

How does banning a weapon make us safe?  It would strip many of us of our immediate source of protection.  If someone tries to harm me or my family and I have a weapon, I have a chance to defend us while I await the arrival of protection officers.  If I have no weapon, I and/or my loved ones may already be dead or inured.

I had a stalker a number of years ago.  He went to jail on other charges
.  At the time, and after his release from jail, I was advised by protective authorities to learn to shoot, to carry.  To carry Something with which I could quickly protect myself.  Even the local police and authorities knew I was safer if I could defend myself on-the-spot, rather than waiting while 911 dispatched those I would need.

Banning guns won't solve problems.
Education, discipline, medical attention for our young people who may need counseling and medication...THESE would be a much better start.  (Why do young people have so many more bouts of depression, anxiety, bullying, etc than 20-40 years ago, by the way?)
Parents and Teachers who WORK TOGETHER for the education and betterment of the children, not parents who second-guess the teachers and vice-versa, this is what is needed.

Glory.  Death is not to be glorified, especially violent death.  The only glory in death occurs when you have faith in God above and meet Him in glory upon earthly death, leaving your body behind.

Our media glorifies killing, death, violence.  Television.  Movies.  Magazines.  News outlets.  Social media.  We, the people.  Yes, we, the people, glorify death, killing and violence.  Every time we watch that movie, that evening news, pick up the magazine with a headline, and share a post about violence on our Facebook or Twitter feeds.  Every single time, WE glorify these things we say we are against.

We need to have the guts to give glory to life, to the sanctity of the human spirit.  We need to have the guts not to ban guns, but rather to fight the good fight for life, for education, for discipline, for balance, for caring when someone seems 'off-balance,' for bringing our country back to a place that was sought once upon a time as a land, a home of the free because of the brave.  Bring our country back to a place you would want to move to when you need freedom.

Have guts, keep your guns, and bring back the glory.
